Who We Are
We started Evolution Shears 14 years ago. I was a mobile groomer, but I had to stop grooming because of the worsening pain in my hands, shoulders, and back. It was a career I loved, and I loved my clients, but I had to give it up. It broke my heart. Moe was (and still is) a talented sharpener. Together, we decided we might be able to help other groomers continue to work in the career they love, and we designed and patented the Evolution Shears handle as a team.
One of our favorite things we hear from groomers is, “Wow! That’s not bad at all! I thought they were going to be way more expensive!”
We started Evolution Shears to help other groomers. It might sound corny, but we decided early on that we would never get rich doing this. We just wanted to be financially comfortable and keep our pups in kibble. We love that we put more scissors in the hands of groomers who need them every year.
The Science Behind the E3 Scissor
Pictured below on the left is the most comfortable position for the hand. We call it the “high five” position. It is the way the hand naturally falls when we let it drop comfortably at our side. It is also how we shake hands and wave (just a few examples). We are, as humans, blessed with opposable thumbs, but when we use that position, called “opposition” (depicted in the drawing in the middle), in a repetitive way, it is uncomfortable. You can seriously injure the muscles and tendons in the hand, wrist, and arm, which will shorten the life of your grooming career or make it much more painful!
The picture on the right illustrates a basic rule of physics. The closer the object (your thumb) is to the pivot point (the attachment screw of the scissor), the shorter the distance your thumb will have to move in order to get the scissor to open and close. This can be a lifesaver for those of us who have arthritis in our hands.
